Ballina Arts Centre

Based along the banks of the River Moy, Ballina's new Arts Centre, has developed a wide range of plans and programmes across the whole spectrum of art forms and practices, to develop audiences in anticipation of the newly dedicated space. The programme includes: Music development, endeavouring to achieve a balance between the major music forms and genres, including, classical, traditional, jazz, choral, world, folk, blues, theatre and dance. Jackie Clarke Collection

This is one of the most important Irish collections in the world. Its breadth and importance, once only known to its creator, is now being made available to all. The Jackie Clarke Library and Archive, based in Ballina, contains over 100,000 items including many unique documents that scholars had believed to be lost - sole surviving copies of publications, rare handbills and proclamations, unpublished manuscripts and political writings....

The Jackie Clarke Collection under the stewardship of Mayo County Council, will become an education and cultural centre of international significance. Mayo County Council has embraced the opportunity of showcasing this collection to the highest international standards. Mayo County Council has purchased a superb location to house the Jackie Clarke Collection; the former Provincial Bank which was designed by Thomas Manly Deane, architect of some of Ireland’s most impressive buildings including the National Library of Ireland. The Jackie Clarke Collection will be a world-class facility for those seeking ‘an authentic experience’ in Ireland.

Access to the Jackie Clarke Collection is by appointment only. Archival cataloguing of this vast collection is ongoing. Phase 1 restoration of the former Provincial Bank will be completed by May 2011. Phase 2 refurbishment for the new home of the Jackie Clarke Collection is expected to finish in 2012.

Enniscrone

Only 7 miles from Ballina, over the Co Sligo border, for years Enniscrone has been the seaside resort for much of Mayo. There are 5km of safe, clean golden beaches.
